MONTANITA


Montanita is a magical beach. The village is located about 150 miles northwest of Guayaquil, easily accessible by car or bus, as it lies on Ecuador's Ruta del Sol.

 

The structure of the village itself is simple consisting of a few offshoot streets all lined with funky restaurants, hostels, internet cafes and shops. Artisans sell jewelry and handicrafts, street vendors sell warm Arapes and cool Ceviche, people laze about on the beach or in the many restaurants and bars. You´ll be allured by the sight s, sounds, and smells.

World class waves for practicing or learning all year round abound in Montanita . "La Punta" first started drawing surfers here years ago with it´s famous right point wave. But Montanita is more than just surfing. It is one of the most interesting villages in South America, multicultural with residents and tourists from all over mixing with the local community--most find its incredible natural ambience difficult to leave.

Montanita Ecuador is what you want it to be. You can come here to relax and be in touch with nature, enjoy the surfing or discover it's special and unique nightlife dancing into the early hours to live bands and DJs.

 

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

There are a variety of incredible travel destinations near Montanita. Mar Azul Spanish school can also organize various day trips and excursions. We offer diverse and varied programs in which you can mix adventure, nature and learning.

For example:

  • Surf trips to amazing beaches with empty waves abound in Las Tunas and Ayampe.
  • Isla de la Plata: the fauna and flora of this island are similar to some islands of the archipelago of Galapagos (2 hours by boat from Puerto Lopez).
  • Whale-watching (between June and September): their observation guarantees strong emotions!
  • "Los Frailes": reputed to be the most beautiful beach in Ecuador.
  • Agua Blanca: walks or horse rides through the tropical dry forest and visits to the Pre-Inca ruins (Valdivia, Machalilla, Chorrera, Manta).
  • Eco tourism trails in Dos Mangas - Near Montanita, the most diverse vegetation of the region, 21 natural pools, rivers and waterfalls up to 60 meters in the rainy season

How to find us

If arriving by Bus from Guyaquil (see Ecuador section for transport info)

Walk north from the bus stop toward the point. You will cross the bridge and find a series of dirt roads on the left hand side of the principal road. Come to the last one, marked with our "Spanish school" sign and turn left, heading toward the beach. look for the sign on the first big wood house on the left side.

We´re just 100 steps from the beach...

Or arrange for an airport transfer and we´ll deliver safely to our doorstep
