Located 2 1/2 hours southwest of Guayaquil, Montanita has become a must-stop on the west coast of South America. This small town has become famous for its beach, surf, and laid-back atmosphere, attracting international tourists who have come to share in the magic and undeniable energy of this place. The town of Montanita is an interesting place still trying to decide which direction it wants to go. The village of Montanita is quite simple and consists of a few offshoot streets all lined with funky restaurants, hostels, internet cafes, and shops. Artisans sell jewelry and handicrafts, street vendors sell warm Arepas and cool Ceviche, and there is always something happening on la calle de cocteles. It is one of the most interesting villages in South America, with residents and tourists mixing with the local community. Because of this, most travelers find its incredible, natural ambiance difficult to leave!
